In 1969, adult Schistosoma mansoni antigen was used in a skin test survey of the distribution of schistosomiasis in Puerto Rico, involving 9,365 schoolchildren. Positive skin reactions were found in 13.6% of children, with a higher rate in males (17.3%) than females (9.7%). Little difference was found between children from urban and rural areas, but maximum reactivity was seen in the south-eastern and eastern parts of Puerto Rico. Results are compared with an earlier survey in 1964.
