The prevalence of intestinal parasites was studied in a 1,000-member community in eastern Puerto Rico. Trichuriasis occurred in 56% and was the most common helminth infection. Hookworm occurred in 11%, and ascariasis in 1%. Persons in homes with flush toilets had lower prevalences of infection than those in homes with latrines.
