In Gujarat State, India, in September 1980, stool samples were collected from 106 people in Okha (26 families) and 62 people (19 families) in Jamnagar. 75 (70.8%) and 41 (66.1%) of the samples, respectively, were positive for parasitic infections. 7 species of protozoa and 4 of helminths were discovered. The commonest species were Entamoeba coli (in 53.8 and 22.6%), E. hartmanni (41.5 and 22.6%), Ascaris lumbricoides (7.5 and 22.6%) and E. histolytica (12.3 and 6.5%). The findings are compared with those from other urban areas of India.
