Examination of biopsy specimens from 9 of 15 pigs which had been repeatedly exposed to Strongyloides ransomi larvae showed that all 9 pigs harboured larvae in subcutaneous fat tissue. 10 pigs were given rafoxanide in the feed at doses of 10 or 100 mg/kg body-weight and slaughtered 3 weeks later. Rafoxanide seemed to have affected larvae in mammary tissue or in adjacent fat or both; larvae were recovered from mammary tissues of only 4 of the 10 treated pigs whereas all 5 controls were positive. Distribution of larvae in the fatty tissues was not uniform, but fat from the abdominal mid-line, and the mammary gland seemed to be preferred sites.
