Of three groups, each of three specific-pathogen-free piglets, groups A and B were infected s/c with 10000 S. ransomi larvae per kg, and group C were uninfected controls. Group A was not treated with an anthelmintic while group B was given thiabendazole (100 mg/kg) on day 9 after infection. On day 10 all three groups were given i/v 4 ml of an isotonic salt soln. containing 5 mu Ci of Cr-51-albumin. From day 11 to day 18 the radioactivity of the blood plasma and of the total daily quantity of faeces and urine was assayed, and from these data the daily plasma loss in the faeces and urine was calculated. On day 18 all the piglets were killed. In group A an average of 59110 S. ransomi were counted; no worms were found in the other two groups. The total faecal excretion of Cr-51 during the period from day 11 to day 18 amounted to 28.76% of the injected amount in group A, 6.29% in group B and 5.2% in C. The total plasma loss in the faeces during the same period averaged 925 ml in group A, 208 ml in group B and 230 ml in C. The plasma protein loss in the faeces in the three groups showed an identical relationship between the three groups. The total excretion of Cr-51 in the urine was lower in group A than in group C.
