Anaphylactic shock caused by tick (Rhipicephalus sanguineous)

This article reports a case of anaphylactic reaction to tick bite (by R. sanguineous) in a 58-year-old male goatherd from Spain. He experienced heavy sweating, dyspnoea, and loss of consciousness after the tick bite. On hospital presentation, generalized urticaria was observed. Two ticks were also found on his skin. The detection of a high level of specific IgE antibodies against R. sanguineus antigens confirmed the diagnosis. The patient showed good clinical response to treatment with epinephrine, antihistaminics and corticosteroids.
