Investigation of intestinal parasites in residents of the Kayseri Karpuzsekisi basin

Faecal and cellophane tape samples (n=240) collected from people living in 4 villages (i.e., Hanyeri (n=40), Sarikuklu (n=20), Dokuzpinar (n=80), and Karpuzsekisi (n=120)) near the Kayseri-Karpuzsekisi basin in Turkey were examined for the presence of intestinal parasites. The following intestinal parasites were detected: Blastocystis hominis (n=82; 34.16%), Enterobius vermicularis (n=37; 15.41%), Entamoeba coli (n=26; 10.83%), Entamoeba hartmanni (n=10; 4.16%), Giardia intestinalis (n=7; 2.91%), Endolimax nana (n=5; 2.08%), Entamoeba histolytica/E. dispar (n=4; 1.66%), and Taenia saginata (n=1; 0.41%).
