Of 2, 559 faecal samples from 1.8 of the population of Sikkim, India, in 1965 to 1966, 76.6 contained helminth ova. Ascaris lumbricoides infection was higher in females (44.3) than in males (35.7), while Hymenolepis nana infection was higher in males (1.0%) than in females (0.3). The incidence of hookworms was similar in males (37.0) and females (34.8%). Different communities in Sikkim, living in different parts of the State, showed differences in helminth infection. Infection with A. lumbricoides and Trichuris trichiura was more frequent in Tibetans, Lepchas and Sikkimese-Bhotiyas than in Nepalese and Indians.
