Potentially novel segmental polioencephalomyelitis in weaner pigs

This article discusses 20 weaner pigs affected with a bilateral, flaccid paralysis of the forelegs which progressed to dyspnoea and death. Histological examination revealed a severe multifocal subacute non-suppurative polioencephalomyelitis, with florid inflammation in the dorsal and ventral horn grey matter of the cervical spinal cord and in brainstem nuclei, but largely sparing the thoracolumbar spinal cord and forebrain.
