Two letters respond to the article by Jaenisch and Wilmut in the March 30 issue on human reproductive cloning. The first letter claims that ethical questions about how best to use the technology of human cloning while minimizing the risks should be faced now, as the existence of cloning technology means that human cloning will be carried out. The second letter contends that Jaenisch and Wilmut's focus on issues of experimental safety may become moot in the near future and that future generations will judge scientists more kindly if they now take a stand against human cloning on universal moral grounds.
