Rural migration and agricultural development in Colombia

It is argued that economists and rural sociologists should integrate rural migration into development plans. Special attention should be paid to the impact migration has on the agricultural sector. Data from several studies is presented to identify some of the main elements of the process in Colombia. The implication of the results of this analysis for the rest of Latin America are emphasized. Investment in education and agriculture are important; land reform is a major tool.
