The oxidation resistance of the blood serum heparin-precipitated beta-lipoproteins in myocardial infarct patients

Oxidation resistance of heparin-precipitated serum beta-lipoproteins (beta-LP) has been assessed in patients with myocardial infarction. Twenty-three men aged 38-66 years with myocardial infarction and 35 healthy men aged 35-49 years were examined. beta-LP were isolated by heparin precipitation and the initial level of lipid peroxides was measured and oxidation resistance assessed after incubation with 50 microM copper ions. The initial level of lipid peroxides in beta-LP is 2-2.5-fold increased in myocardial infarction patients in comparison with healthy controls (p < 0.05), while oxidation resistance of beta-LP is decreased, the greatest decrease being observed during the 4th week of myocardial infarction (p < 0.05). During the 8th week this parameters show a tendency to an increase.
