Possible involvement of polypurine and polypyrimidine DNA regions in compactization of gene chromosome domains is studied. These DNA regions are potentially able to form triplex structures. A search for "complementary" polypurine and polypyrimidine regions was carried out in five eukaryotic genes (three animal genes and 2 plant genes). It is shown that introns and nucleotide sequences flanking these genes contain regions that are capable of interacting and creating triplex structures. In cases of the realization of such DNA-DNA interactions in vivo, chromosome loci of eukaryotic genes can be compacted as several small loops. The DNA-DNA interaction regions are mostly grouped in small areas; as a result, the forming structures acquire rosette-like organization. These compact "structurizing regions" in gene chromosome loci may play an important functional role.
