In December 1968, a survey for Paragonimus and intestinal helminths was carried out in schoolchildren in a district of Miaoli County, Taiwan. 56 of 2,511 children gave a positive reaction with VBS antigen prepared from adult P. westermani and one had Paragonimus eggs in the faeces. 1,290 of 2,095 children examined for intestinal helminths were positive; 40.9, 27.6 and 14.9% had Ascaris, hookworm and Trichuris respectively. Ascaris infection was higher in females (43.7%) than in males (38%); the higher the school grade, the lower the infection rate.
