Lipid peroxidation in chronic alcoholics with renal lesions

Aim. To study lipid peroxidation (LPO) and their contribution to pathogenesis of renal lesions in chronic alcoholics. Materials and methods. LPO was assessed in 161 chronic alcoholics 89 of whom had renal disorders. Results. Chronic alcoholics with renal disorders had noticeable LPO enhancement as indicated by high plasma levels of malonic dialdehyde and acylhydroperoxides. Conclusion. The phenomenon of LPO activation in chronic alcoholics with renal lesions can be employed in differential diagnosis with renal affection of non-alcoholic genesis.
