Hearts of turkey embryos and young poults from several experimental flocks with a high incidence of round heart disease were examined by electron microscopy. Virus-like particles, 100 m mu in diameter and morphologically similar to C-type particles of ribonucleic acid tumour viruses, and myocarditis were present in all hearts examined in turkeys from 15 days of incubation to 7 weeks after hatching.
