Since Violamycin B1 has no influence on HA virus titer in vitro, the titer decrease recorded in the allantoic fluid of embryonated eggs does not seem to be due to an interaction between the drug and surface virus Components. The HA titer decrease in the allantoic fluid may .be ascribed to several factors, such as : a) a Violamycin B1 - viral nucleic acid interaction occurring during in vitro incubation; b) an action of Violamycin B1 n virus biosynthesis and/or c) on the cellular components involved in virus replication. To establish which hypothesis might explain the effect observed, further studies are necessary on the infectivity and other properties of viruses subjected to the action of Violamycin B1.
