Of 279 people examined in a village near Isfahan, Iran, 98.9% were infected with Ascaris lumbricoides about 75% with Trichuris trichiura and Trichostrongylus spp. and less than 4% with Enterobius vermicularis, Hymenolepis nana and Taenia saginata. 205 patients with an A. lumbricoides faecal count of more than 400 e.p.g. were given pyrantel pamoate at 10 mg/kg body-weight. One and 4 weeks after treatment all stools were free of A. lumbricoides eggs. The treatment was also found to be effective against E. vermicularis. Side effects were not considered serious.
