The fertility of bulls born co-twin to heifers

The fertility of three Milk Marketing Board bulls known to be co-twins to heifers was investigated. Two of the bulls showed no abnormality in the values measured by the third showed consistently poor semen quality and a low conception rate. This last bull was the only one in which red cell leucocyte chimaerism was demonstrated and its co-twin would have been a freemartin. It is suggested that there is a high risk of poor semen quality in such bulls.
