Content of citric acid was studied in blood serum of patients with thyroid hyperfunction and of rats with simulated hyperfunction of thyroid gland. Concentration of citrate was significantly increased in blood of these patients and of the experimental animals as compared with controls. Uncoupling effect of thyroid hormones, related to development of thyrotoxicosis, as well as possible liberation of citrate from osteal deposits, where its content is about 1%, are discussed.
