The potential roles for total dietary fat in cancer are discussed. The role of arachidonic acid intake, its endogenous production, and its distribution within lipid fractions in carcinogenesis is reviewed. Changes to arachidonic acid distribution in obesity are described. The implications for alterations in arachidonate intake and distribution are discussed.
