The aims were: (1) to provide a method of measuring the economic effects of state and federal water-based recreation projects on the economies of local political subdivisions; and (2) to begin empirical testing of the model and to illustrate its potential use, in conjunction with subsidiary studies, in facilitating and improving the public decision-making process involved in recreational resource development. The model used is a recently developed modification of the inter-industry technique known as from to analysis, which was refined and extended to meet the needs of the study. The technique allows the underlying structure of the entire local economy to be described and shows the interrelations of sectors within it and the spread of economic impacts originating in any one sector to the others, either directly or indirectly. It permits direct and indirect (secondary) sales, income and employment impacts and various multiplier values to be calculated as well as providing a means of projecting the impact of stipulated future demand changes.
