Blood containing 70% r.b.c. infected with A. marginale was inoculated into a 100-day-old bovine foetus in utero. At 41 days after inoculation, the foetus was removed from the cow by caesarean section. The foetal serum reacted positively (4+) to the c.f. test. Giemsa-stained smears of foetal blood revealed r.b.c. containing anaplasma bodies. A susceptible calf inoculated with blood recovered from the foetus developed signs of anaplasmosis.
