Gram-staining characteristics of Anaplasma marginale

Purified erythrocyte-free suspensions of Anaplasma marginale were stained by Gram's method. Giemsa stain, acridine orange (AO) stain, and fluorescent antibody (FA) stain. The organism was Gram-negative. The other methods did not show up any morphological features that were not detected by Gram's method.
