The effect of prednisolone treatment on indices of central hemodynamics [CH] and myocardial contractile function [MCF] was studied in 61 patients with generalized myasthenia. The patients were divided into five groups based on the duration of prednisolone treatment (from 3 months to 5 years). The study showed that the majority of patients with generalized myasthenia displayed cardiovascular system involvement, which can be termed "myasthenic heart". In patients previously treated with anticholinesterases and then treated with prednisolone for 3 months (1st group), a stabilization of CH and MCF indices did not occur regardless of the improvement of the general pathological process. In myasthenia patients treated with glucocorticoids, a tendency for CH and MCF indices to worsen combined with a regression of myasthenic disorders was observed, a fact which did not depend on the duration of prednisolone treatment.
