A study of 150 individuals, including the controls (group 1), coronary patients without postinfarction cardiosclerosis (group 2) and coronary patients with postinfarction cardiosclerosis (group 3) is reported. A high correlation has been demonstrated between the stroke volume (SV) data, obtained at Doppler cardiography of the ascending aortic flow and echocardiography for groups 1 and 2, and between SV data, obtained by Doppler echocardiography and thermodilution for group 3. The assessment of myocardial contractility is also possible on the basis of ascending aortic flow, as evidenced by good correlation between the myocardial fibre circular shortening rate (Vcf) and the peak flow rate/ejection time ratio, and between Vcf and the peak flow rate/increment time ratio.
