Comparisons were made between Hampshire and Duroc litters whose sires, maternal grandsires, or both, had been exposed to 300 R of X-irradiation of the testes at the spermatogonial stage. Pooled results, averaged over breeds and maternal grandsire treatments, showed that food utilisation efficiency (kg weight gain/kg food consumed) of spring and autumn litters was 0.002 and 0.004 resp. less than for litters from non-irradiated sires. Hampshires were more affected than Durocs.
