Factors reflecting the presence of latent iron deficiency and factors considered as leading to the development of iron-deficiency anemia were studied in a group of young people, age 16-22. In 97.3% of the young people Hb level corresponded to WHO standards. Moderate anemia was detected in 2.7% of the subjects. External symptoms of latent iron deficiency were observed in approximately 25%. Long-term or abundant menstruation without any additional factors does not lead to the development of iron deficiency. Intensive consumption of Kalmyk tea or abundant menstruation in combination with intensive Kalmyk rea consumption are not sufficient for the development of iron deficiency anemia either.
