The results of a clinical trial undertaken to investigate the therapeutic effectiveness of an Fe-polysaccharide complex and to evaluate its activity in comparison with that of iron fumarate in the treatment of Fe deficiency anemias are reported. Both preparations were active and well tolerated, but iron polysaccharide appeared to exert a greater influence on the level of Hb and on the number of red cells. The Fe-polysaccharide preparation, therefore, appears to be as active as other Fe preparations and was exceptionally well tolerated by all patients subjected to the new Fe compound.
