The interference with the host's cholinergic system by experimental Trichinella spiralis infections (mostly in mice) is reviewed. The accumulation of endogenous acetylcholine in muscle fibres is regarded as a principal cause of the clinical symptoms during larval migration and infiltration into the muscles.
