Cytochemical studies on some specific phosphatase activities in experimental trichinellosis of mice

The localization of thiamine pyrophosphatase, nucleosidediphosphatase and 5-nucleotidase was studied in developing Trichinella spiralis muscle larvae and in skeletal muscles of the mouse host. Changes in the amount and localization of reaction product in muscle fibres invaded by larvae are reported. In muscle larvae the cytoplasm of stichocytes did not contain thiamine pyrophosphatase, but did contain the other 2 enzymes. The walls of the intestinal tract contained all the investigated phosphatases, suggesting a role for these enzymes in the absorption of nutrients.
