The effect of risk factors, such as atherogenic dyslipopproteinemia, on the devleopment of atherosclerosis was studied. Male teachers at Moscow University (1570 persons, aged 20-59) were examined. The protocols of the primary and secondary screenings were described. The results of the prospective study showed that stable dyslipoproteinemias are most frequently diagnosed in persons with a significant number of risk factors for coronary heart disease. The analysis of diets showed that the consumption of starch-containing products and other carbohydrates is the most stable and reliable factor. The frequency of the stabilization and normalization of disturbances in the plasma lipid spectrum was studied in a population for the 1st time. The role of diet and risk factors for coronary heart disease in the normalization and stabilization of dyslipoproteinemia was established. The combinations of the principal characteristics of nutrition and risk factors for coronary heart disease can serve as additional criteria when classifying contingents subjected to screening to prevent coronary heart disease.
