Treatment of 40 cases of paralysis of common peroneal nerve with acupuncture and moxibustion

Forty cases of paralysis of common peroneal nerve were treated with acupuncture and moxibustion. Points Zusanli, Jiexi, Taichong, Taixi and Shangqiu of the affected side were selected. Reinforcement by thrust-lift and twisting of needles was used on Zusanli and Taixi, moderate reinforcing and reducing manipulation was used on Jiexi, Taichong and Shangqiu. After presence of Qi (sensation), the needle was maintained for 20 min. After withdrawal, moxibustion with moxa stick over Zusanli was applied for 5 min. The treatment was given once daily; 6 treatments comprised one course. The average in the cases was two courses for complete cure.
