Asymptomatic mobile kidney in a hypertensive population

During a period of eight months, the detector placement at conventional renography in 42 patients referred for workup of their hypertension was controlled with succinic acid scientigraphy. A surprising finding was that 9% of the men and 32% of the women had a hitherto unrecognised mobile kidney. This finding has methodological consequences. If renography is carried out with a gamma-camera, the investigation should always be performed with the patient supine. On the other hand, when renography is carried out with the conventional apparatus with a 4-channel-localization system, the investigation may be performed with the patient in the sitting position due to the limited 100% counting area (4 .times. 5 cm) of the latter apparatus.
