The constant and progressive increase of skin pathology caused by Candida has prompted the authors to test the efficacy and tolerability of an amphotericin B-halcinonide combination, i.e. of an antimicotic with a corticosteroid derivative. On the basis of their findings in 40 patients of either sex, aged between 1 month and 83 years and suffering from skin candidiasis of varying localization, the authors conclude that the antifungal activity of this combination is comparable to that of other drugs already on the market and in addition has marked antiinflammatory properties; as a result, clinical symptoms disappeared more rapidly. The virtually complete absence of side effects makes this combination a safe and easily handled drug for the management of skin candidiasis.
