Effect of Streptococci on epithelial cells of the vagina of albino inbred mice NMRi

Experimental studies performed in female white inbred mice NMRI concerned the effects of Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus viridans and Streptococcus faecalis isolated from the vagina of women on the epithelial cells of the mice vagina. The animals were inoculated with 5 .mu.l of streptococcal suspension introduced into the vagina of mice using an automatic micropipette "Plastomed". The inoculum was prepared as a 24-hour suspension of liquid culture of Streptpcocci on the Tood-Hewitt's medium with the admixture of sheep blood. Statistical analyses concerned morphological data obtained before and 72 hours after the inoculation. In order to show the extent of the influence of particular streptococci on cellular lysis Student's t-test was used in dependent trials. We found differentiated lytic activity of the studied streptococci on the epithelial cells of mice. The highest activity .sbd. highly significant statistically was shown by Streptococcus pyogenes. Streptococcus viridans and Streptococcus faecalis also increased the number of damaged epithelial cells in the vagina of mice, but less significantly. No statistically significant differences in the number of damaged epithelial cells were found in the control group of mice.
