The antigenic effect of pseudorabies virus after inactivation by gamma irradiation

Aujeszky virus grown in cell culture fluid was inactivated by gamma irradiation. Radiation dose and temperature as well as the type of apparatus used are critical features. Inactivation of the virus was confirmed by failure of growth of treated virus on cell cultures. Rabbits did not develop the disease after being injected with the inactivated virus, which, however, was capable of stimulating the production of antibodies following two injection, as confirmed by serum neutralization tests.
