In this paper, we demonstrate that disinfectant effect of potassium permanganate by showing the morphological changes of hepatitis B virus (HBV) with electron microscope. The structure of HBV-DNA have been detected with molecular hybridization and HBV-DNA polymerase activity have been determined. The three indicators were used to evaluate the effects of inactivating HBV by potassium permanganate (P.P.). It was found that HBV-DNA structure could be destroyed in two minutes, while HBV morphology and DNA polymerase were destroyed in five minutes. It was suggested that P.P. is an excellent disinfectant for the HBV contamination of the skin mucosa, fruits, vegetable, and diet vessels, etc.
