Basophil-enriched leucocyte populations in an anti-IgE mediated protease degranulation assay

In studies of five normal individuals, basophils were confirmed as the sole cellular source of a neutral protease released from peripheral blood leucocytes by incubation with anti-IgE. Modifications to the use of the PAD-Test degranulation kit are described which allow elicited protease activity to be related to absolute basophil numbers in basophil-enriched cell fractions. Results from 20 normal individuals are given based upon the modified protocol.
