The scheme for the eradication of progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) began in 1966 and was restricted to the Elkhound and later also the Saluki. In January 1969 it was extended to include all breeds of dogs and during the first eight months nearly 600 dogs have been examined. The mechanics of the scheme are described. Early diagnosis is not possible in some breeds and the problems associated with these cases are discussed. The schemes for elimination of other conditions, e.g.
