Generalised progressive retinal atrophy in the English setter in Norway

Case reports are given for 9 cases of generalized progressive retinal atrophy diagnosed in English setters in Norway in 1983 (one case) and 1988/89 (8 cases). All the dogs had been used for hunting and were presented because of poor vision or blindness. The dogs were between 7 and 10 years old. All the dogs could be traced back to a common ancestor on both parent sides suggesting that is an inherited disease in the English setter.
