N-acetyl-beta-D glucosaminidase excretion was measured in 105 workers in an accumulator factory in order to investigate the effect of lead on the kidney. The values were compared with those of controls. No lead poisoning was observed while in 52 cases urinary delta-aminolevulin acid determination and in 15 cases raised lead level of the blood suggested increased lead absorption. The urine analysis and values of the renal function showed no deviation. The mean values of acetyl-glucosaminidase as wll as the number of pathologically increased enzyme excretion were significantly higher than in the controls. The increased acetyl-glucosaminidase of those with enhanced urinary delta-aminolevulin acid level was measurable that indicates a possible renal process caused by lead. At the same time lead did not affect blood pressure.
