Accidental urea poisoning in beef cattle

Accidental urea poisoning in 5 female local beef cattle aged 4-7 years old is reported. The animals were found dead on pasture which had been fertilized with urea the day before. All the animals showed signs of bleeding from the anus and vulva with foam coming from both nostrils. All animals were in good bodily condition and extremely bloated. The distended rumen contained gases with a strong smell of ammonia. There was congestion in the mucosa of the abomasum, small intestine, anus and vulva and of the lungs, kidneys, liver and spleen.
