29 heifers were subjected to 1-6 superovulation treatments, each consisting of 3 injections of 500 micro g of soluble horse anterior pituitary extract (HAP), on days 10-12 of the oestrous cycle; some heifers received 66 mg HAP at the 2nd superovulation treatment. Serum from treated heifers and 13 untreated heifers was sampled 2 wk after the last injection, and was assayed for HAP antibodies using a passive haemagglutination assay. Anti-HAP antibodies were detected in all treated groups, titres being greater for heifers superovulated 2-6 times than for those superovulated only once. However, 2 of the 13 untreated heifers also showed antibody titres.
