Pyocin types of clinical strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated in Morelia, México (1980-1984)

Three hundred and twenty five clinical strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated in Morelia, Mexico, from diffrent institutions in the 1980-1984 period, were typed by using a pyocin production method. Twenty nine pyocin types were found, but 1, 3, 5 and 10 comprised 70% of the strains. Our results suggest that a high rate of cross-infection due to Pseudomonas aeruginosa occurred in the institutions analyzed. We also observed that pyocin type 10 strains showed higher antibiotic resistance than strains of the other common types.
