Epidemiological study on lymphatic filariasis in an endemic zone of Orissa

1926 inhabitants from 2 villages in Orissa, India, were surveyed for lymphatic filariasis. 37.2% had clinical disease and 15.8% were mf (Wuchereria bancrofti) positive; male genitalia involvement, hydrocoel, lower limb affection and filarial abscesses were observed in 80.2, 57.0, 46.5 and 11.8% respectively. 162 (8.4%) of the 1926 study subjects were asymptomatic mf carriers and were followed up quaterly by clinico-parasitological examination.
