Mouse and rat infected with G. lamblia were compared with respect to their susceptibility to infection, the course of infection and the distribution of the trophozoites in the small intestine. To infect 100 percent young and adult mice, 1000 cysts were sufficient whereas to infect adult rats, an inoculum of 10,000 cysts was needed. The infection in mice persisted for 30 days whereas in rats for a slightly longer period as evident from the higher counts on 30th day in these animals. The localization of the trophozoites was preferentially in the middle and distal segments of the small intestine.
