The course of G. lamblia infection in normal infected, reinfected and, early and late treated Swiss albino mice was studied. In normal infected animals, the infection persisted for 30 days whereas in reinfected animals it lasted for only 20 days. The early treated animals behaved like normal infected mice whereas the late treated ones behaved like the reinfected animals. In late treated animals, cyst and trophozoite counts (log10) were 1.6 .+-. 1.0 and 5.01 .+-. 0.08 respectively on 15th post-infection (PI) day which were significantly lower (P < 0.001). Percentage of T cells in the normal infected and early treated animals remained unaltered whereas in reinfected group it was significantly higher (53.66 .+-. 3.08; P < 0.01) from 5th PI day onwards. The B cell population was significantly increased in all the groups as compared to uninfected animals, and this was more prominent in the reinfected group (43.3 .+-. 3.0% on 10th PI day).
