An original method of staged examination of renal function during anesthesia and surgery consisting in a rapid test of minute diuresis has been proposed. Basing on the study of renal function in 2 groups of patients, in one of which renal function was studied using the suggested rapid test, it was concluded that the traditional total collection of the urine during the operation does not provide precise information about renal function. Measurement of minute diuresis during anesthesia and operation provides a dynamic control of renal function and allows one to estimate the adequacy of anesthesia. Probable causes of the disturbances of renal function at various stages of anesthesia and operation are discussed. It is concluded that minute diuresis is an integrative index of renal function during anesthesia which allows one to prevent renal insufficiency.
