Determining the residues of antibiotics and other drugs in food products

Food products of animal origin were analysed in the years 1981-85 by the Sanitary-Epidemiological Stations for the presence of residues of veterinary preparations antibiotics - chloramphenicol, oxytetracycline, monensine, streptomycin, tylosine, and sulphaquinoxaline (a coccidiostatic). In milk chloramphenicol was found in 25 out of 1364 samples, streptomycin in 93 out of 552. In eggs chloramphenicol was present in 13 out of 1132 samples. In poultry meat monensine was demonstrated in 3 out of 62 samples, and sulphaquinoxaline in 5 out of 160 samples, but residues of oxytetracycline, tylosine and chloramphenicol were not found in it. In beef chloramphenicol was not present.
